Journal Discovered

~

from THE LEMURIA NEWS RECORD:

On December 29, 2008 carpenters renovating an old summer house in Avalon (soon to be turned into a bed and breakfast place for tourists to the island) discovered a small old-fashioned “doctor’s bag” style valise and a small brown leather bound journal hidden inside a locked cabinet in what used to be an attic bedroom. The items found showed evidence of having been well-loved, and smelled faintly of the sea.

On the lower right corner of the cover the men could see faded words and letters which, with some difficulty, they were able to decipher.

When one of the men ventured to open the journal, a tiny torn and time-darkened photograph dropped from between the pages. The photograph looked to be that of a woman in a dark suit and a big fluffy looking hat like those seen in early 20th century photographs. On the back of the photograph was written “Rilla, my Rilla.
